Softball Recap: El Cerrito Extends Winning Streak to Four

While El Cerrito didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-9), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against the Vallejo Redhawks on Wednesday as the El Cerrito Gauchos made off with a 17-0 win. Fans of the Gauchos have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Natalia Gawlikowski and Courtney Miles made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Gawlikowski pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Miles struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gawlikowski has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit any time she's pitched this season. At the plate, Gawlikowski scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances, while Miles scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Arlie Tatum was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Ashlynne Hollins also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

El Cerrito lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March of 2024.

The victory keeps them at an undefeated 4-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 16.2 runs. As for Vallejo, the defeat was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 2-2-1.

Coming up, El Cerrito will head out to face off against Richmond at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. El Cerrito's pitching crew has only allowed one run per game this season, so Richmond's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Vallejo, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Kennedy at 4:00 p.m. Vallejo has given up an average of 12.6 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
