Poly came tearing into Wednesday's match with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 41.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They breezed past the Monroe Vikings to the tune of 77-33. Given the Parrots' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 322nd, while the Vikings are ranked 1276th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Quian Khawaja, who posted 26 points. Another player making a difference was Chris Reyes, who earned 13 points.

Monroe's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jevonte Brown, who had five points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jorge Hernandez, who scored seven points and eight boards.

Poly's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 81.4 points over those games. As for Monroe, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 13 of their last 14 games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 2-17 record this season.

Coming up, Poly and Grant will face off at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday without much rest, having both just played. Poly knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 13 contests -- so hopefully Grant likes a good challenge. As for Monroe, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Chavez at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Monroe is facing Chavez at the right time seeing as Chavez is stuck on a 15-game losing streak.
