Baseball Recap: Gilbert Yellowjackets vs. Shepaug Valley Spartans
Gilbert extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 19 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-4 in the process. They lost 12-0 to the Shepaug Valley Spartans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-0 back in April.
As for Shepaug Valley, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games.
For Shepaug Valley's part, Rocco Smith was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave Smith a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of JP Knox, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Gilbert will venture away from home to square off against Derby at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Yellowjackets are facing the Red Raiders at the right time seeing as the Red Raiders are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Shepaug Valley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Platt at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Spartans 2.9, the Panthers 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
