Baseball Game Preview: Southwest DeKalb Panthers vs. Marist War Eagles

The Southwest DeKalb Panthers will face off against the Marist War Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Southwest DeKalb will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Southwest DeKalb barely beat Dougherty the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Panthers put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 19-7 victory on Saturday. With that win, the Panthers brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Kameron Scott and Montagus Phillips made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Scott tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Phillips pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Southwest DeKalb is 6-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-11 otherwise. At the plate, Scott scored three runs and stole four bases while going 4-for-5, while Phillips scored three runs while going 2-for-5. Those four hits gave Scott a new career-high.

In other batting news, Aaron Barber was a standout: he scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Desmond McCord was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one double.

Southwest DeKalb kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Marist waltzed into their contest on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came out on top against the Hawks by a score of 8-5.

Marist's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-5. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Southwest DeKalb, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 12-12.
