Softball Recap: Hayfield Has No Trouble Against Kenyon-Wanamingo

Hayfield won the last time they faced Kenyon-Wanamingo and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Knights. Considering the Vikings have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Elaina Masching tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nora Bamlet, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Kenna Selk was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBI.

Hayfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .594. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kenyon-Wanamingo only posted a batting average of .158.

Hayfield has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Kenyon-Wanamingo, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hayfield will challenge United South Central at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Kenyon-Wanamingo, they will venture away from home to face off against Randolph at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
