Softball Game Preview: Mercer Mustangs vs. DuBois Central Catholic Cardinals

The Mercer Mustangs will challenge the DuBois Central Catholic Cardinals at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Mercer 4, DuBois Central Catholic 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Mercer's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Reynolds. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won six in a row.

Angelina Eakman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Emma Stoepfel was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Bella Beers was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, DuBois Central Catholic posted their closest win since June 13, 2024 on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Moniteau, sneaking past 2-0.

Not much got past Rylee Kulbatsky, who gave up just a hit and racked up 17 Ks to keep Moniteau off the board.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lily Davidson, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run and one double. Another player making a difference was Kiki Foster, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances.

The victory got DuBois Central Catholic back to even at 9-9. As for Mercer, their win bumped their record up to 9-4.
