Basketball Recap: Anna Lee's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Nottoway over Cumberland

Nottoway was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a 35-26 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cumberland Dukes. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 48-26 back in December of 2024.

Nottoway lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Anna Lee, who posted eight points along with 16 rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Lorraine Wilson, who scored seven points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Nottoway smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

Nottoway's loss dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Cumberland, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-6.

Nottoway has already played their next contest, a 35-31 defeat against Randolph-Henry on the 4th. As for Cumberland, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 66-15 loss against Prince Edward County on the 4th.
