Baseball Recap: Swansboro Has No Trouble Against Croatan

Swansboro made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Croatan, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Pirates blew past the Cougars 11-4 on Friday. Considering the Pirates' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

The team relied heavily on Dean Germosen, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kevin Till, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Swansboro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Croatan only posted a batting average of .194.

Swansboro pushed their record up to 7-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Croatan, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-5.

Swansboro and Croatan should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Pirates will face off against Richlands at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (86 vs. 274). Meanwhile, Croatan (ranked 160th) will meet Havelock (ranked 376th) at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
