Football Game Preview: Carroll Tigers vs. Gregory-Portland Wildcats

Carroll is 1-9 against Gregory-Portland since November of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m.

Carroll is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 64 points on October 3rd, they were much more limited against Miller last Friday. They had to suffer through a 31-0 loss at the hands of the Buccaneers. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Tigers were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Gregory-Portland had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 39.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three two weeks ago. They never let the Trojans get on the board and left with a 56-0 win. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Wildcats' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while the Trojans are ranked 929th).

Carroll's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Gregory-Portland, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.

Carroll was taken down by Gregory-Portland 42-7 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
