Baseball Recap: Newfield Comes Up Short

The home team had won the previous two meetings between Newfield and Smithtown East, and Smithtown East kept the tradition alive. The Wolverines fell just short of the Bulls by a score of 2-1 on Saturday. The Wolverines were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulls earlier this season, when they won 6-5.

Newfield saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Albert Morel, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Newfield's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-5. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Smithtown East, they, and Half Hollow Hills East. As for the Bulls, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Newfield is set to face off against their familiar foe North Babylon at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Smithtown East will square off against rival Half Hollow Hills East at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
