Basketball Game Preview: Rocky River Pirates vs. Magnificat Blue Streaks

Rocky River hasn't had much luck against Magnificat recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Rocky River Pirates will welcome the Magnificat Blue Streaks at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.

Rocky River is headed into the match having just posted their closest win since February 22, 2024 on Saturday. They skirted past Normandy 36-33. Given the Pirates' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 137th, while the Invaders are ranked 444th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Rocky River's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elizabeth Lang, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Lang a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Olivia Dewey, who posted seven points in addition to ten steals and six boards.

Rocky River smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Normandy only pulled down six offensive boards.

Meanwhile, Magnificat strolled past Medina with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 56-39.

Magnificat's win bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Rocky River, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.

Rocky River took a serious blow against Magnificat in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 65-36. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Rocky River was down 40-19.
