Basketball Recap: Wimberley Extends Winning Streak to Four

Wimberley extended their winning streak to four games thanks to a huge performance from Gavin Olmer. The Wimberley Texans secured a 63-57 W over the Davenport Wolves on Friday thanks in part to Olmer, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 16 rebounds. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 8.1 boards per game.

The team also got some help courtesy of Paul Gumbert-Mendoza, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 17 points and three steals. The contest was his sixth in a row with at least ten points.

Davenport's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Christian Mckinney, who went 6 for 11 en route to 17 points. Mckinney has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Joseph Danielsen, who posted 11 points.

Wimberley's victory bumped their record up to 20-8. As for Davenport, they moved to 23-5 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Wimberley and Davenport should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Wimberley will square off against Canyon Lake at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 368 places (278 vs. 646). Wimberley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.3 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Davenport (ranked 249th) will meet Navarro (ranked 1045th) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
