Recap: Roxbury Gaels vs. Colonia Patriots

The Roxbury Gaels put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 21-14 win over Colonia. Given Roxbury's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Colonia is ranked 153rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Roxbury's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Anthony Skawinski led the charge by rushing for 86 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 92 yards and a touchdown on only eight passes. Skawinski is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jahmani Miller, who rushed for 209 yards while picking up 8.0 yards per carry.

Despite the loss, Colonia still got an impressive performance from Jaeden Jones, who rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns. Jones hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for nine straight games.

Roxbury's win was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 10-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 Livingston and 1-9 Mount Olive (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 37.5% over those games). As for Colonia, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.

Roxbury will square off against Irvington at TBD on Friday. Irvington will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. Colonia does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
