Baseball Recap: Straughn Comes Up Short

If Straughn was riding high fresh off their 13-3 takedown of Brantley back in March, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Tigers fell just short of the New Brockton Gamecocks by a score of 9-7 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Tigers have suffered since February 15th.

JT Moreno was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Straughn is 4-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-5 otherwise. Moreno was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Saxby Radford made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Matt Ashberry, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Straughn's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-6. As for New Brockton, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-9.

While Straughn had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
