Basketball Game Preview: Wakefield School Fighting Owls vs. Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot Knights

The Wakefield School Fighting Owls will venture away from home to challenge the Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wakefield School's defense has only allowed 20.2 points per game this season, so Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Wakefield School's usually-dominant defense will be looking to make up for Friday's struggle, when Highland offense got past them. Wakefield School took a blow against Highland on Friday, falling 56-26. The loss continues a trend for the Fighting Owls in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now lost three in a row.

Meanwhile, it's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot can now relate to. They fell 36-27 to the Vikings on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 320th, while the Vikings are ranked 113th).

Despite the defeat, Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Molly Hamner posted nine points and seven rebounds. Hamner has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.

Wakefield School's loss dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Wakefield School against Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot in their previous meeting back in February of 2015, as the team secured a 54-22 victory.
