Darlington had won three straight at home, but on Saturday they bumped their record up to 16-9 to make it four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Beaufort Eagles a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Falcons have won 12 matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Malaya Holt was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Holt was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Carly Gainey and Emily Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Gainey went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Johnson went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs Johnson has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Keekee Bacote, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Darlington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Beaufort only posted a batting average of .095.
As for Beaufort, their loss dropped their record down to 12-11. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, their shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
On Beaufort's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caylin Adkins, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
As of now, neither Darlington nor the Eagles have any future games scheduled.
