Baseball Recap: Portola Has No Trouble Against St. Margaret's

While Portola put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for St. Margaret. Portola blew past St. Margaret's 13-0. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Tartans recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Not much got past Brendan Villanueva, who gave up just two hits to keep St. Margaret's off the board. The dominant performance also gave Villanueva a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

On the hitting side, Jack Wang was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Cooper Marinelli was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Portola was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .447. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win got Portola back to even at 7-7. As for St. Margaret's, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Portola will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on University at 3:30 p.m. on April 7. As for St. Margaret's, they will be playing at home against Palmer Trinity at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Margaret's pitchers better be ready for this one: Palmer Trinity has averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
