Baseball Recap: Wayne Comes Up Short

Wayne extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping them down to 5-18. They came up short against the Northmont Thunderbolts, falling 12-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Thunderbolts this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-0 last Friday.

Brodie Benson made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Wayne's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 3-17 when he doesn't).

As for Northmont, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-8. Considering they have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Northmont's side, Austin Welch was incredible, going 1-for-3 with six stolen bases and three runs. Those six stolen bases gave Welch a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chase Fuduloff, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wayne will face off against Waynesville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season. As for Northmont, they will take on St. Xavier at 5:15 p.m. on Friday.
