The West Washington Senators are on the road again on Friday to play the South Decatur Cougars at 7:00 p.m.
West Washington is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Salem on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. West Washington was outmatched by Salem on the road and fell 34-7. Having soared to a lofty 34 points in the game before, the Senators couldn't push the score so high this time.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Decatur). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Irvington Preparatory Academy 58-0 at home. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won four games by 33 points or more so far this season.
It was another big night for Corbin Johnson, who rushed for 252 yards and five touchdowns on only 15 carries. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his seventh straight game with at least 107 rushing yards dating back to last season.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, South Decatur was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 364 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 164 rushing yards in seven consecutive matches.
South Decatur didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Elan Phelps and Jp Scudder. Another thorn in Irvington Preparatory Academy's side was Toby Bishop, who picked up a sack and made seven total tackles (2.5 for loss).
West Washington has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for South Decatur, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
