Basketball Recap: Max Vanlaningham Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Vista Del Lago

Woodcreek won the last time they faced Vista del Lago and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Woodcreek Timberwolves walked away with a 53-41 victory over the Vista del Lago Eagles. Given the Timberwolves' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while the Eagles are ranked 327th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Woodcreek got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Max VanLaningham out in front who went 7 of 13 on his way to 20 points and six rebounds. VanLaningham has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Michael Kirby, Jr., who went 5 of 8 en route to 14 points and five rebounds.

The victory made it two in a row for Woodcreek and bumps their season record up to 15-3. As for Vista del Lago, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.

Woodcreek will be playing in front of their home fans against Inderkum at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Vista del Lago, they will venture away from home to face off against Stagg at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
