Softball Game Preview: Clayton Comets vs. South Garner Titans

Clayton is a perfect 8-0 against South Garner since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Comets will host the Titans at 7:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Clayton's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while South Garner has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.

Clayton's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Garner 15-0. Considering the Comets have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Izzy Tart made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Laila Gibson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, three runs, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Amelia Brown, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI and one stolen base.

Clayton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Garner only posted an OBP of .000.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for South Garner's offense. They came up short against Cleveland on Tuesday, falling 18-0.

South Garner's defeat dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Clayton, their win bumped their record up to 11-3.

Clayton got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April of 2025 against South Garner by a conclusive 15-0 score. Do the Comets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Titans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
