Recap: Richfield Spartans vs. Washburn Millers
The Richfield Spartans put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Washburn as Richfield made off with a 77-57 win. Given Richfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while Washburn is ranked 175th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Richfield was led to victory by Desirai Chappell and Aniiya Johnson. Chappell scored 25 points along with 8 rebounds, while Johnson dropped a double-double on 19 points and 10 rebounds. Johnson continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Zarihana Rennie, who scored 6 points along with 13 rebounds and 4 steals.
Richfield's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Washburn, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Richfield will square off against DeLaSalle at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. DeLaSalle knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Richfield likes a good challenge. As for Washburn, they will head out on the road to face off against Apple Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
