Softball Recap: University Prep Gets the Win

University Prep won the last time they faced Excelsior Charter and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Jaguars skirted past the Eagles 15-14.

Breezy (Briseis) Vargas made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Paityn Zimmerman, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, seven RBI, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Amarie Castro, who scored four runs while going 5-for-5.

University Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

University Prep's victory bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Excelsior Charter, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-5-1.

University Prep will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Eagles: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
