Football Recap: Golden Takes a Loss + How To Watch

If Golden was feeling good fresh off their 41-7 takedown of Lakewood last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Demons were beaten by the Heritage Eagles 56-28 on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Demons of the 28-7 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Golden's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Thatcher Matthews, who threw for 175 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 74 yards and one score. Ethan Bonafede also helped with two touchdowns in total.

Mo Thenell continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Heritage, rushing for 295 yards and five scores while picking up 10.9 yards per carry. Those 295 rushing yards gave Thenell a new career-high. Cooper Schwartz also helped out as he racked up 120 rushing yards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Golden fell to 5-1. As for Heritage, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.

Golden will challenge Bear Creek at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th. The Demons will need to watch out since the Bears have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Heritage, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Dakota Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th. Dakota Ridge's defense has only allowed 10.2 points per game this season, so Heritage's offense will have their work cut out for them.
