Basketball Recap: Owen Valley's Losing Streak Snapped at Five Games

Owen Valley came into Saturday's matchup having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Westville Tigers 37-34.

Owen Valley was led to victory by Rhet Heckman and Donavin Newby. Heckman almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds, while Newby posted 12 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. The dominant performance gave Newby a new career-high in boards. Jesse Durnil was another key player, putting up seven points.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Owen Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Owen Valley's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Westville, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.

Owen Valley and Monrovia will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Westville will take on Urbana University in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Westville is facing Urbana University at the right time seeing as Urbana University is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
