Softball Recap: Abilene Takes Down Caprock in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Abilene had no trouble coming through when it counted. Everything went their way against the Caprock Longhorns on Saturday as they made off with a 10-0 win. Considering the Eagles have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Avah Reyes made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Makayla Gutierrez and Kinzley Cantu did most of the damage at the plate: Gutierrez got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI and one double, while Cantu went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Gutierrez has posted since back in March. Andria Starks was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs.

Abilene is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Caprock, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-10-1.

As of now, neither Abilene nor the Longhorns have any future games scheduled.
