Basketball Recap: Capitan Comes Up Short

Capitan lost against Lordsburg two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Capitan Tigers took a hard 51-36 fall against the Lordsburg Mavericks.

Lordsburg found their leader in sophomore Natalie Guerrero, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 21 rebounds. Lordsburg is 8-4 when Guerrero posts eight or more boards, but 3-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Dani Esquivel, who posted 13 points and seven rebounds.

Capitan's defeat dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Lordsburg, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a massive bump to their 11-9 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Capitan will square off against Mescalero Apache at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mescalero Apache has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games. As for Lordsburg, they will face off against Cloudcroft at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
