Softball Recap: Rensselaer Central Takes a Loss

Rensselaer Central dropped their record down to 11-8 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They lost 10-0 to the Logansport Berries. Having soared to a lofty 19 runs in the game before, the Bombers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Logansport, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 19-4. The result was nothing new for the Berries, who have now won 11 matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

For Logansport's part, Gracie Risley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Risley has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kellyn Cripe, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lucy Gordon, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Rensselaer Central didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 7-2 win against North Judson-San Pierre on the 17th. As for Logansport, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 14-0 victory against Benton Central on the 17th.
