Softball Game Preview: Kermit Yellow Jackets vs. Westbrook Wildcats

The Kermit Yellow Jackets will square off against the Westbrook Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kermit is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.

If Kermit beats Westbrook with 15 runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Kermit was the clear victors by a 15-8 margin over Marfa on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Yellow Jackets.

Isabella Urquidi was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had over her last 14 matches. The team also got some help courtesy of Romina Moralez, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

Kermit was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .457 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Westbrook can bid farewell to their five-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past Hamlin 9-8.

Katie Salazar was a standout: she scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Raenee Rich was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases.

Kermit's win bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Westbrook, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Kermit has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .549. However, it's not like Westbrook struggles in that department as they've averaged .535. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
