Basketball Recap: Centennial Skates Past Hanover with Ease

You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter and that's exactly how it played out for Centennial on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew the Hanover Hornets out of the water with a 48-5 final score. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 25-3.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Centennial to victory, but perhaps none more so than Anai Medina, who dropped a double-double with 33 points and ten boards. Medina has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played. Amaya Garcia was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds.

Centennial smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 33 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Centennial is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 19.0 points over those games. Hanover is on a 20-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-19.

Coming up, Centennial will challenge Sangre de Cristo at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hanover, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 63-6 loss against Cheraw on the 25th.
