Basketball Game Preview: Sumner-Eddyville-Miller Mustangs vs. Axtell Wildcats

Sumner-Eddyville-Miller and Axtell are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2016, but not for long. Having just played yesterday, the Sumner-Eddyville-Miller Mustangs will get right back to it and host the Axtell Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Sumner-Eddyville-Miller is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.5 points per game this season.

Axtell is hoping to do what Hi-Line [Eustis-Farnam/Elwood] couldn't on Thursday: put an end to Sumner-Eddyville-Miller's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Sumner-Eddyville-Miller strolled past Hi-Line [Eustis-Farnam/Elwood] with points to spare, taking the game 50-32.

Isaac O?Neill was nothing short of spectacular: he dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Chance Daake, who posted 12 points in addition to six rebounds and three blocks.

Sumner-Eddyville-Miller was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Axtell came up short against Kenesaw on Friday and fell 65-52. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Sumner-Eddyville-Miller will have to contain Jacob Halvorsen as he made an impact in Axtell's last game. He put up 20 points along with five boards and four steals. Halvorsen is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandt Modlin, who had ten points.

Axtell's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Sumner-Eddyville-Miller, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.

Sumner-Eddyville-Miller strolled past Axtell in their previous meeting back in January of 2024 by a score of 61-45. Will Sumner-Eddyville-Miller repeat their success, or does Axtell have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
