Baseball Recap: Mount Calm Takes a Loss

After flying high against Coolidge two weeks ago, Mount Calm came back down to earth. Mount Calm fell just short of the Bynum Bulldogs by a score of 10-9 on Thursday. Mount Calm was not able to repeat the success they had when they faced Bynum earlier this season, when they won 11-0.

Bailey Garrett put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Garrett was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Mount Calm: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-4 otherwise.

In other batting news, Nason Rucker stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 2-for-4 with six stolen bases, three runs, and one double. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.4 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Christian Morales, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs.

Mount Calm dropped their record down to 4-5 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Bynum, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.

Coming up, Mount Calm will head out on the road to take on Hubbard at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Bynum does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
