St. John the Baptist proved they can win big last Saturday (they won by 32) and on Sunday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won a game that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by the Fordham Prep Rams 27-26. This was payback for the Cougars, who suffered a 39-33 loss the last time these two teams met.

St. John the Baptist's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maurice Scott, who threw for 194 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 18 passes, and also rushed for 52 yards and one TD. That's the most passing yards Scott has posted since back in August. Another back making a difference was Kalen Percer-Hogue, who rushed for 84 yards and one score.

Another reason for the win was St. John the Baptist's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Percer-Hogue, Christopher Trinca, and Dominick Witt, who each picked up one sack apiece.

St. John the Baptist pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.3 points over those games. As for Fordham Prep, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.

St. John the Baptist will face off against St. Peter's at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Fordham Prep, they will take on St. Anthony's at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Rams will need to watch out since the Friars have now posted at least 31 points in their last four matchups.
