Baseball Game Preview: Southington Blue Knights vs. Berlin Redcoats

Southington has won three straight games at home, while Berlin has won three straight on the road dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Blue Knights will welcome the Redcoats at 6:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Southington is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: Platt, who was ranked 15th at the time (Southington was ranked 17th). The Blue Knights skirted past the Panthers 5-3.

Southington got a great performance from Gabe Hinkson as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. Hinkson has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mark Zigmont, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Berlin had just enough and edged out Platt 4-3 last Wednesday. The four-run effort marked the Redcoats' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Berlin's win bumped their record up to 10-0. As for Southington, their victory bumped their record up to 9-3.
