Baseball Recap: Surry Central Drops Season-High Score on West Wilkes

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Surry Central). They were the clear victors by a 16-3 margin over the West Wilkes Blackhawks on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Golden Eagles considering their two-run performance the match before.

Jackson Wilmoth was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Wilmoth was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Eric Branch was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Kasen White was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Surry Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Surry Central moved to 12-4 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for West Wilkes, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.

Surry Central will venture away from home to challenge North Surry at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Greyhounds will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Golden Eagles surely won't give up without a fight. As for West Wilkes, they will host East Surry at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
