Softball Preview: Central of Clay County Volunteers vs. Shelby County Wildcats
The Central of Clay County Volunteers will venture away from home to take on the Shelby County Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Things were looking good for Central of Clay County after they put the first points on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Sylacauga by a score of 4-3.
Meanwhile, Shelby County has relied on a stalwart pitcher averaging 3.56 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Monday. They blew past Briarwood Christian 16-10. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.
Shelby County got a massive performance out of Kaydence Connell (2026), who went 4-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that Connell (2026) hit this season. Madison Tolleson (2028) was another key player, scoring two runs while going 4-for-5.
Shelby County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .512. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Briarwood Christian only posted a batting average of .333.
Shelby County's record now sits at 7-2. As for Central of Clay County, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.
