Baseball Recap: Hastings Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Hastings fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Grand Island on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Islanders by a score of 4-3. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 23, 2021, but that streak is no more.

Ashton Hawes was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has become a key player for Hastings: the team is 4-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Hastings saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carlos Jimenez, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Royer DeLoera was another, going 2-for-3 with one run.

Hastings' loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-7. As for Grand Island, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-5.
