Softball Game Preview: Shelby Whippets vs. Clear Fork Colts

For the second straight game, Shelby will face off against Clear Fork. The Whippets will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against the Colts at 5:15 p.m. Shelby will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

On Monday, Shelby was able to grind out a solid win over Clear Fork, taking the game 9-4.

Alyssa Booker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Katie Taylor was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Braylee Sturts, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Shelby kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Clear Fork moved to 10-6 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Shelby, their victory bumped their record up to 13-7.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Shelby has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Clear Fork struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
