Baseball Recap: Ross Triumphs

Ross was not the first on the board on Tuesday, but they got there more often. They walked away with a 6-3 win over the Southview Cougars. This was a revenge game for the Little Giants: when they faced off against the Cougars last Monday, they had to take a 5-4 defeat.

Karson Kayden spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Ross is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 2-4 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cade Reineck, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Breylen Garza, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Ross was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Ross has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Southview, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ross will head out to challenge Findlay at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Southview, they will venture away from home to square off against Perrysburg at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight.
