Softball Recap: Newark Norsemen vs. Sandwich Indians
Newark extended their losing streak to five on Saturday, dropping them down to 10-14. They took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sandwich Indians. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Norsemen of the 3-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

Zoey Carlson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Adelaide Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.
As for Sandwich, their win bumped their record up to 17-13. The game was the first time they have beaten Newark on their field since April 13, 2019.
On Sandwich's side, Kendal Petre made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Petre was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kayden Corneils and Abigail Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Corneils fired off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-5, while Johnson fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave Johnson a new career-high. Raena Moyer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Coming up, Newark will face off against Indian Creek at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sandwich does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
