Basketball Game Preview: Hi-Plains Patriots vs. Cheyenne Wells Tigers

The Hi-Plains Patriots will face off against the Cheyenne Wells Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Hi-Plains has struggled recently with 13 defeats in a row, while Cheyenne Wells will arrive with five straight victories.

Hi-Plains is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Kit Carson last Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Hi-Plains was dealt a 57-25 loss at the hands of Kit Carson. The Patriots were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-12.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Gabe Harvie, who posted ten points. Those ten points gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ian Ayres, who put up six points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cheyenne Wells). They breezed by South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] to the tune of 76-24 on Friday. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Hi-Plains' defeat dropped their record down to 0-12. As for Cheyenne Wells, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.

Hi-Plains lost to Cheyenne Wells at home by a decisive 45-29 margin in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Thankfully for Hi-Plains, Carson Noe (who went 8 of 13 en route to 19 points in addition to five boards and three blocks) won't be suiting up this time.
