Football Recap: Marysville Skates Past KIPP Columbus with Ease

Marysville's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the KIPP Columbus Jaguars 37-6. Given the Monarchs' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 147th, while the Jaguars are ranked 442nd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Colin Wimmers and JJ Henry. Wimmers rushed for 110 yards and two TDs on only ten carries while Henry rushed for 107 yards and one touchdown on only 15 carries. Those 110 rushing yards gave Wimmers a new career-high.

Marysville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 292 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as KIPP Columbus only rushed for 42 rushing yards.

One reason for the win was Marysville's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 10.5 sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Mitchell Evans and Jackson Snyder, who racked up 6.5 sacks between them.

The victory got Marysville back to even at 1-1. As for KIPP Columbus, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.

Coming up, Marysville will venture away from home to square off against Lancaster at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for KIPP Columbus, they will face off against Northland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
