Basketball Recap: Excel Christian Academy Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Jacarri Reed and Jonathan Jean-Baptiste

Excel Christian Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss dating back to last season. They took a hard 57-43 fall against the Candlelight Christian Academy Flames. The Spartans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Flames apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Excel Christian Academy had strong showings from Jonathan Jean-Baptiste, who posted 13 points, and Jacarri Reed, who put up 13 points.

Candlelight Christian Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Trevor Gonzalez out in front who went 6-for-14 to rack up 20 points in addition to five rebounds and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriel Coste, who dropped a triple-double with 13 points, 17 boards, and ten steals.

Excel Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Excel Christian Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Geneva Classical Academy at 7:30 p.m. on December 1. As for Candlelight Christian Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 62-25 win against Faith Christian Academy on the 17th.
