Baseball Recap: Polk County Victorious

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Polk County walked away with it. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Starmount Rams on Tuesday.

Gunnar Alm was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Polk County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 9-4 (and 3-9 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Mark Jarrett, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Polk County's win bumped their record up to 12-13. As for Starmount, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season.

Polk County will challenge Christ the King on Friday. The Crusaders will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Wolverines surely won't give up without a fight. Starmount does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
