Softball Game Preview: Shawnee Golden Eagles vs. Portland Christian Eagles

Shawnee is 0-4 against Portland Christian since March of 2016 but things could change on Wednesday. Shawnee will look to defend their home field against Portland Christian at 5:30 p.m.

Shawnee fell victim to North Oldham and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 19-0 to the Mustangs. Having soared to a lofty 20 runs in the game before, the Golden Eagles' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, Portland Christian entered their tilt with Bullitt Central on Thursday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 16-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won four games by 12 runs or more so far this season.

Portland Christian got a big performance out of Ava Gish, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Addie Bragg, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Gish wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Portland Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.

Portland Christian pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.5 runs over those games. As for Shawnee, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Shawnee suffered a grim 25-0 defeat to Portland Christian when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Shawnee avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
