Softball Recap: Mauston Golden Eagles vs. Adams-Friendship Green Devils
Mauston had lost five straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 0-9 to make it six. They came up short against the Adams-Friendship Green Devils, falling 22-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Golden Eagles of the 17-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.
As for Adams-Friendship, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For Adams-Friendship's part, Riley Weaver made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Weaver has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.
In other batting news, Kena Kirsenlohr was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. Gwen Gransee also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Looking ahead, Mauston will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Westfield Area at 5:00 p.m. As for Adams-Friendship, they are taking a road trip to face off against Lodi at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
