Soccer Game Preview: Pioneer vs. Rodriguez

The Pioneer Patriots will venture away from home to challenge the Rodriguez Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Pioneer's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for three straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Pioneer is likely headed into the game with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Vacaville on Friday. Pioneer took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Vacaville. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 696th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 120th).

Meanwhile, Rodriguez was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 2-0 to River City. That's two games in a row now that the Mustangs have lost by exactly two goals.

Pioneer's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6-4. As for Rodriguez, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8-1.

Pioneer might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Rodriguez when the teams last played back in January. Can Pioneer avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
