Basketball Recap: Creede Takes a Loss

Creede lost against Sargent back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Creede Miners were beaten by the Sargent Farmers 63-36.

Creede's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Charlie Fairchild, who posted 14 points and seven rebounds. Fairchild is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jaxson Fazio, who put up ten points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Creede smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive games.

Sargent's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lucas Garcia led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine steals. Those nine steals gave Garcia a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Fernando Venzor, who went 6 of 14 on his way to 17 points.

Creede dropped their record down to 4-6 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Sargent, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-4.

Creede didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 65-32 loss against Primero on the 11th. As for Sargent, they will welcome Ignacio at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
