Softball Recap: Riverside Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

Riverside took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against St. Albans, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Riverside Warriors narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the St. Albans Red Dragons 6-5. This was payback for the Warriors, who suffered a 6-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Shaylea Blackhurst spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on eight hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Riley Smith, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one double.

Riverside's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.6 runs. As for St. Albans, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Riverside will host Spring Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Albans, they will welcome Huntington at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The last three games St. Albans has played (dating back to last season) have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
