Preview: Sabino Sabercats vs. Pusch Ridge Christian Academy Lions
Two dominant guards in Caden Watkins and Mason Hoke are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Sabino Sabercats will head out on the road to face off against the Pusch Ridge Christian Academy Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sabino has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 716 points over their last ten matchups.
Sabino pushed their score all the way to 75 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 76-75 to Empire. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Wednesday (66), Sabino still had to take the loss.
Meanwhile, even though Safford scored an imposing 60 points on Tuesday, Pusch Ridge Christian Academy still came out on top. Pusch Ridge Christian Academy narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Safford 62-60. The victory was familiar territory for Pusch Ridge Christian Academy who now have three in a row.
Hoke was his usual excellent self, scoring 33 points along with two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ben Lambe, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Sabino's defeat dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Pusch Ridge Christian Academy, they pushed their record up to 13-8 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Sabino didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Pusch Ridge Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, but they still walked away with a 56-52 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sabino since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
